Chiltons auto repair manual is one of the better known provider of auto repair information. You've probably seen their auto repair books in your local auto parts store. Let's find out whether it is worth your money in this Chiltons manual review.
This auto repair information company is probably a better known brand than many other companies that provide car repair guides because they have been around for a long time and they sell their guides in almost every auto parts store in the country.
When I was a kid and I needed to know information about my car I would go to the auto parts store and buy a manual (or sometimes just look up what I need to know in the store!). Since these were sold in almost all parts stores this is the one that I bought and got used to.
If you are looking for general maintenance and small repair job instructions, then their printed guides as well as their DIY web guides are great. They are very competitive with what information they include and how detailed they are.
If you are looking for more detailed information then you might want to consider another option.
The down side to the Chiltons auto repair manual as well as the Haynes auto repair manual is that they just do not get very in-depth when it comes to more detailed information. They basically put in the most useful information into both their printed guides and their online service. But leave out more detailed information and trouble trees.
If you are just looking for some basic maintenance information or repair information for a small job then you would probably be just fine using their service.

Having tried almost all popular repair manuals in my years as a mechanic, I personally recommend ALLDATAdiy to home mechanics, DIY enthusiasts and auto professionals.
While ALLDATAdiy's indepth information and detailed diagrams allow professional mechanics to pull off major overhuals... its step by step instructions and clear pictures makes it simple enough for first time beginners to follow.
Given that they have more than 30,000 repair manuals, you will find an exact match for your vehicle's year, make and model on their website.
Besides much cheaper ($20++ for a year's subscription) than a factory manual, they also provide valuable information (such as the latest prices of OEM parts) that you won't find elsewhere - Click here for my full ALLDATAdiy review.
